DoCoMo, the worlds leading mobile communications company who launched the first 3G networks have now demonstrated a download rate of over 250Mbps(31MBps) in Tokyo, Japan. That equates to being able to download a DVD’s worth of information in under 5 minutes. When compared to the current average UK broadband speeds 16Mbps(2MBps) this could mean that wireless technologies could potentially outpace broadband connections in the next couple of years, mainly due to the existing UK wired networks needing a complete overhaul before any serious gains in broadband speed can be achieved.
