A new way to store electric energy has been discovered which allows scientists to to store more energy than petrol in the same volume, and help extened the range of electrical vehicles. The range of an electrical car is its biggest set back and even the best rechargable battery can not match the amount of energy stored in a fuel tank.
Batteries produce there energy from a closed chemical system that in the end becomes exhausted. Fuel cells use a consant supply of fuel and are continually topped up. A new battery designed by Stuart Licht has both of these features.
Its a anode made from vanadium boride which can serve as a fuel too but unlike the flowing fuel of a fuel cell it can be held internally, like the anode material of a battery.
This will allow for 5 kilowatt hours per litre which is two fold higher than petrol.
