The collaborative effort between BBC, ITV and other terrestrial channel providers has now come to fruition. FreeSat, the no-subscription satellite service is now live across 98% of the UK. Providing over 70 channels at the moment, including 3 high definition channels (BBC HD, ITV HD & Channel 4 HD) the service costs £80 to install the required satellite and anywhere between £40 - £100 for a set-top decoder which comes in both SD & HD varieties.
Given that the channel list is supposed to be increasing to over 200 by the end of the year Sky TV may have some serious competition on their hands.
