Instant Web Access

We all want instantaneous access to the web from our gadgets and that usually means leaving our PC or laptop on. What if we are out and about with our netbook and want access to the web from within an area that offers Wi-Fi connection to the web? It means waiting for the OS to load, which with XP could take a considerable amount of time.

LGs latest offering of netbooks comes with a platform that does give you that ability. The Splashtop Instant-on platform from a company called DeviceVM, rebranded by LG as Smart-On, comes with the LG-X120 netbook and allows you access to your most used programs within seconds. The simple screen loads up without the need for your OS and displays the icons for you favourite applications. Just click and away you go.

Inside the LG-X120 is an Intel Atom N270 1.6Mhz chip, 1Gb memory, 160Gb HDD, HSUPA, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, 3 x USB 2.0 and a micro USB for Smart Link which is a technology that allows for the transfer of files or install of new applications. It has a 10.1 inch WSVGA screen with a resolution of 1024 x 576 pixels. A 1.3 megapixel camera comes integrated for video calling.

I can see the use of the Splashtop platform becoming more and more commonplace and maybe it will become an OS in its own right.
