With wireless technology these days being implemented in numerous gadgets, there are very few that haven’t been touched. One that hasn’t is Sony’s Walkman. Sony has now rectified this and has introduced their new Walkman, the NWZ-X1000 which is the first Walkman to implement Wi-Fi technology.
What this means is that through its 3 inch screen you can browse the web and watch YouTube videos with its YouTube streaming capabilities. The screen itself is an OLED touchscreen which will give you a good viewing experience in the daylight and touchscreen control on the web.
Another first, not just for Walkman, but for any portable music player, is the active noise cancellation that is built into the X1000. To eliminate background noise the device will generate counter tones. As of yet, it’s not known if the gadget will do this or if it comes with special headphones.
The player will come with 16 GB and 32 GB storage options meaning it could go head to head with Apples iPod Touch, though it will be lacking things like game playing and motion sensing. Does the new Walkman have enough to compete? Maybe not with the functions, but it could compete with sound and video quality and ultimately it could be the price that decides its fate which has yet to be released.
