I’m a fan of Sci-Fi films and a common theme in the future among some of them is the way we clean ourselves. Due to water being a rare commodity new ways to cleanse our bodies have been devised which usually involves some sort of light. Well taking a leaf out of the Sci-Fi books, a Taiwanese designer says he has created a gadget that uses a similar system, but for clothes.
Deodr is the creation of Wu Kun-chia from Scenario Labs and he says it can rid our clothes of everyday smells. The system that it uses is a combination of fan induced convection and a photo catalyst light tube. The way it works is when the bacteria is killed by a photo catalytic reaction, the nasty smells that are created by volatile organic compounds are decomposed and while this is going on the fan pulls clean air through the clothes. The whole thing s housed within something that looks like a lampshade.
It is claimed that this way of cleaning clothes is more eco friendly than using a washing machine and will only take between 15 and 30 minutes. However, there is a downside. If you stain your clothes with some sort of spillage you will need to use a washing machine as the Deodr can’t remove visible stains.
