Microsoft’s Surface has finally.. surfaced

Microsoft’s multi-touch tabletop Surface has finally gone to retail. AT&T have been chosen to incorporate the first commercially available Surface units into a few select stores in America, allowing customers to view information on the phones available just by placing them onto the table. Far from the initial videos (see below) demonstrating the possibilities of the system so far Surface is no more than a glorified interactive ‘billboard’, although AT&T are planning to be able to allow users to drag and drop video’s, ringtones and more directly to their phones. Microsoft’s surface isn’t expected to hit the consumer market until 2011, which is great as it gives them time to work on the $10,000 price tag.

Ironically, Apple’s multitouch iPhone is not going to be supported.
