Phones for Pre-Teens

It seems our gadgets are being used by a younger and younger audience of late. None more so than the mobile phone. The early teens are parading around with their phones stuck to their ears for most of their waking hour. But should kids younger than this have their own phones? Well Samsung think they should.

They have released the Samsung Tobi which is aimed directly at the pre-teens with heavy emphasis on safety. It contains the usual features of a mobile with a music player and 1.3 megapixel camera, but a couple of additions make it stand out from the crowd. A call blocking feature for ten numbers is available in response to spam messages and text bullying. A button on the side of the phone allows for a one touch SOS call and your child could pretend to be on the phone with a fake call feature which they interact with a recorded message.

The phone itself is also safe, made from non-allergenic materials and non-toxic paints and being constructed from recyclable and biodegradable bio-plastics is environmentally friendly.

The Tobi has its own website that kids can interact with that promotes safety and it also has information for parents to download. The children’s charity CSEF ( Children’s Safety Education Foundation) has voiced its approval for this and the educational tools on the phone itself.

This could be a good and safe way of introducing technology to our kids while having fun as well.
