Gadgets should be fun as well as practical. They should bring a smile to your face when you are using them and nothing does that more, for me, than a gadget that you don’t expect much from, but surprises you with what it can deliver. This goes for the mini projectors that you can buy these days. And Beanbox have taken it a step further with the Evolution R-1.
The mini projectors are roughly the size of a mobile phone and can project a screen up to 60 inches. With the Beanbox’s new gadget, that has now increased to 100 inches.
The projector runs at 30 lumens brightness and displays a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. Inside is a LCoS chip that is covered in tiny liquid crystals which is designed for higher resolutions. The internal storage is of a 1GB capacity and there is a microSD card slot to expand that storage by another 4GB.
On top of the R-1 is an iPod like scroll wheel which gives you control of the device for using it as a standalone. The speaker is 1W so you won’t get a cinematic experience and the battery is reported to have only 90 minutes of life.
Hopefully this technology will lead to an improved overall experience and we could soon be seeing projectors like these that you can use as your main viewing medium resigning that box of electrical components in the corner to history.
