Safe E-mail in Your Car

There are a lot of people who spend most of the day in the car going between customer sites and meetings. They have all of the gadgets to be in touch with everything that is going on in the office, but can only get updates or read e-mails when they have pulled over and checked their device. For someone who lives on their e-mails this can be a problem. IMS (Intelligent Mechatronic Systems) have come up with a gadget to help those needy people that is called the iLane.

This is a little box of tricks that sits in your vehicle and connects to your Smartphone via Bluetooth. It reads e-mails to you negating the need to stop and check your phone. You can control what it does with voice commands such as “Reply”, “Delete”, and “Call Back”. When you want to reply to an e-mail, just talk the message into the Bluetooth headset and the iLane will send an MP3 file as the message for the receiver to listen to.

Other Smartphone applications can be controlled such as the phone and calendar and you can listen to your appointments being read out to you. Other functions of the device let you catch up on news from Associated Press and the weather from The Weather Network.

There are two problems at the moment, it only works with Blackberrys and is only available in Canada.
