Tim Berners-Lee the mastermind behind the World Wide Web has called for a rating system to establish the sites that be trusted to tell the truth and highlight the ones that can’t.
His speech was made at the launch of The World Wide Web Foundation with the notion that everyone should benefit as the web evolves and reaches it’s full potential. Tim explained that the explosion of sites claiming that the LHC would destroy the world had prompted him to push for a new system that gave sites a label for trustworthiness once they had proved there reliability.
Berners Lee did say that he did not believe that a simple number like an IQ rating would be sufficient.
The aim of this would be to stop things such as cult websites gaining popularity, and verifying scientific as plausible and of use. Whether this idea will actual come to fruition remains to be seen as good idea as it sounds.
