wi-fi safety

Wi-fi is becoming a feature in more and more homes and just how secure is your wireless connection. Paul Rubens is a network security and gave a shocking interview to BBC news with some eye opening comments.

It was said that it would take a experienced hacker only two minutes to hack in and defeat the security measures protecting many of the home wireless Internet connections.

This would give them access to confidential information such as passwords, personnel information like bank details. It is not just home wi-fi at risk but anyone using this type of technology including shops and the hand held carders they use. This type of crime is on the increase and has its own name called War Riding, this refers to hackers parking outside a shop and using a normal laptop to hack into the shop tills and gain credit card details etc. The software called WEP is what most people would have in place but is not sufficient and needs replacing with new software called WPA, but is considerably more expensive.
